RAM Laboratories, Inc. Introduces RAMBLASTTM, Industries First Distributed NCBI-BLAST Implementation with Integrated Grid Functionality

San Diego, CA - December 17th, 2002 - RAM Laboratories, Inc., a provider of Tools, Technology and People for True Application ParallelizationTM(TAP) announces the availability of RAMBLASTTM, a high throughput distributed implementation of the NCBI-BLAST algorithm with integrated Grid functionality. RAMBLASTTM takes full advantage of RAM Laboratories' patent-pending parallel and distributed processing framework to deliver the high performance requirements of compute intensive and high throughput bioinformatics applications.

"Life Science organization are looking for effective methods to accelerate their most complex applications and to realize the promise of bioinformatics in the drug discovery process", said Dr. Richard MacDonald, President and CEO of RAM Laboratories. "Too many of these organizations struggle with the development and use of tools that are simply not able to deliver the performance, capacity and throughput required for sequence searching, gene expression, microarray, data mining, visualization and Proteomics applications. With the introduction of RAMBLASTTM, we've enabled performance levels that make the promise a reality."

RAMBLASTTM

The distributed implementation of NCBI-BLAST marks the first bioinformatics algorithm to realize full scalability with respect to both data size and the number of computers. RAMBLASTTM is embedded with RAMGRIDTM a fully functional Grid application that automatically delivers full tasking and job management capabilities across a network to support large sequence searches in parallel. RAMBLASTTM also takes advantage of the RAM Laboratories’ Framework technology to support a heterogeneous compute environment, including HP (HP UX), Sun (Solaris), PC (NT/Windows 2000), PC (Linux), Apple (OS X) and SGI (IRIX) platforms. RAMBLASTTM results also feed into third party applications for viewing and analysis. RAMBLASTTM enables the use of unused computer cycles to increase productivity in the area of sequence comparison and facilitate both publicly available databases and in-house databases.

RAMGRIDTM

RAMGRIDTM was developed with the focus of distributed computation and in-house applications in mind. It harnesses the power of unused computer cycles to yield a super computer at no extra hardware cost. RAMGRIDTM runs in a distributed environment that allows multiple users to run multiple applications across multiple nodes. RAMGRIDTM also takes advantage of the RAM Laboratories’ Framework technology to support a heterogeneous compute environment, including HP (HP UX), Sun (Solaris), PC (NT/Windows 2000), PC (Linux), Apple (OS X) and SGI (IRIX) platforms.

RAM Laboratories' Framework Overview

The RAM Laboratories' framework is the company’s innovative parallel and distributed processing tool. This technology is a corner stone in the government’s high performance computer needs. The framework is a library for parallel and distributed discrete event simulation implemented with cutting edge speed and design. This library enables an easy conversion of sequential programs to a parallel and distributed architecture, which in turn, results in an immediately noticeable increase in company productivity. The RAM Laboratories framework also supports a heterogeneous compute environment, including HP (HP UX), Sun (Solaris), PC (NT/Windows 2000), PC (Linux), Apple (OS X) and SGI (IRIX) platforms.
